There is no Fourth of July like a Lake George Fourth of July. The Village's annual fireworks display at Shepard Park draws tens of thousands of people to the southern basin of the lake, with shells reflecting off the water and the kind of small-town energy that makes you want to call your mom.
Here's everything you need to know to actually enjoy it.
The Basics
Date: Saturday, July 4, 2026
Time: approximately 9:30 p.m. (immediately after sundown)
Location: Shepard Park, Canada Street, Lake George
Price: Free
Best viewing: Shepard Park, the Village waterfront along Canada Street, and Beach Road
How to Beat the Crowds
Thousands of people pack into the Village for this show — it's the biggest crowd of the entire summer. A few strategies:
Arrive before 7 p.m. to find a legal parking spot. Several back streets get closed off before the show for emergency access.
Plan to wait at least an hour after the show to leave. There are only two ways in and out of the Village — both on Route 9 — and traffic backs up significantly.
Walk in from outside the Village if you can. Hotels along Route 9 are within a 15-minute walk, and you'll save yourself a parking headache.
Consider a boat cruise. Lake George Steamboat Company offers all three boat cruises on July 4th — Minne Ha Ha (9:00–10:15 p.m.), Mohican (9:10–10:25 p.m.), and Lac du Saint Sacrement (9:15–10:35 p.m.) — for an unbeatable on-water view.
Or splurge: Wade Tours runs a $150-per-person dinner & fireworks cruise aboard the Lac du Saint Sacrement with transportation, live entertainment, and a buffet.
Alternative Fourth of July Viewing
If you want fireworks without the Village chaos, the area has options:
Bolton's Independence Day Celebration (July 4, 7–10 p.m.) at Rogers Memorial Park — music from DJ Andy Pratt, a magic show, and a fireworks finale.
Silver Bay YMCA Independence Day Fireworks (typically July 5) — watch from Silver Bay Road, the Inn Porch, or the Boyd Center patio.
Glens Falls Symphony Summer Pops Concert at Crandall Park on July 3 at 7:30 p.m. — patriotic favorites and a fireworks finale set to John Williams's "Summon the Heroes" and Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever."
Bring
A blanket or low lawn chair
Bug spray (the southern basin gets buggy after dark)
Layers — even July nights cool down quickly by the water
Cash for the food vendors and snack stands along Canada Street
Patience for traffic on the way out
Lake George doesn't do the Fourth halfway. Show up ready and you'll have a night you remember for a long time.
